Biography

I have worked at the Santa Rosa Junior College for over 22 years in one capacity or another, and consider it almost my second home. I began my career here working at the bookstore when I was 15 years old all the way up to becoming an instructor in 1998.  I have worked with computers and technology since I was 11 years old, and use it in my every day functions (I joke that my iPhone tells me where to go and what to do--which is fairly true!) Technology is now an essential tool in the business world--not just MS Office, but many others.

I have also worked in the bookkeeping field doing consulting for Quickbooks privately, and was a bookkeeper for Stanley-Steemer Corporation for a while as well. I work with one of the Intuit senior managers currently and advise her on how Quickbooks is used in the academic environment.

Besides teaching courses in technology and business education, I also teach courses in wine appreciation and enjoyment...which is my hobby and personal passion. I was the Technical Director for the 2002 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition as well as the Assistant Director for the Press Democrat's Wine Competition from 2000 through 2005. I have also written articles for an online wine website, and work at a local winery writing tasting notes, hosting guests, etc. It keeps me balanced.

Academic Experience

I have been teaching at the Santa Rosa Junior College since 1998. Have done training through the college for the Tech Academy, SRJC Center at Coddingtown, the Petaluma Campus, and our off campus county locations as well as online courses. I have served on many committees across campus and  I also serve as a Senator for the Academic Senate for the college.

Work and Consulting Experience

Computer consultant for companies and executives since 1990.
Bookkeeper for Stanley Steemer Corp. 1994
Instructor, Santa Rosa Junior College 1998-present
Interim Director, Coddingtown satellite Center Summer 2000
Assistant Director, Press Democrat Wine Competition 2000-2005
Technical Director, San Francisco Wine Competition 2001-2002
Interim Program Coordinator, Business Administration Dept. Fall 2011 Semester
Wine Educator, Road Scholar/Elder Hostel Program Fall 2011-present
Instructor, Wine Education- Santa Rosa Junior College 2000-present

Professional Areas of Interest

I love working with the students in our certificate courses in the Business Administration Dept.. Computerized bookkeeping, teaching the basic accounting and bookkeeping concepts is really fun. It's not normally a "fun subject", but it has its moments!  I also teach the core certificate programs (BOT 56A, BOT 56B, 59.3,  etc.)--these courses are an important foundation for all of our (and other programs on campus) certificate program students!

I have designed and created a database for The San Francisco Chronicle Northern California Wine Competition. I like to use my experience with computers along with my love and joy of wine. What a perfect combination. I also have been a wine judge and coordinator for wine competitions. I am a Certified Sommelier and member of the Guild of Sommeliers.

    "Technology and Online Education"

The new technologies and multitude of resources available on the Web enhance the instruction I provide and have empowered my students to learn far more than they would ever get from their textbooks and my lectures alone. The challenge of helping my students to learn through this new instructional methodology is exciting. Because technology is improving and changing rapidly, there is so much more to know and do to provide my students with a learning experience they will never forget.

Professional Involvement and Community Service

As a faculty member of the college I serve on the Basic Skills Initiative Committee.  I have served on the Academic Senate, Student Equity Committee, Professional Development Committee, and the Staff Diversity Committee.
I teach part of the BAD certificate courses within the discipline of Office Technology. I'm dedicated to assisting you in learning skills that will improve your marketability and prepare you for your chosen career. I am also am a member of:

  • National Business Education Association
  • California Business Education Association
  • Society of Wine Educators
