Biography

    Born and educated in Oakland, California, Don started his law enforcement career in 1960 as a San Francisco Special Police Officer at S.F. City College. In 1961, he was hired as a Summer Deputy Sheriff for the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department. In 1962, Don joined the 163rd Military Police Co. at the Presidio of San Francisco. Later that year he was assigned to the 542nd Military Police Co. in Puerto Rico. In September 1964, he entered the Oakland Police Academy as an Oakland Police Reserve. In 1965, Don became a Santa Rosa Police Officer where he worked until September 1970 when he was hired as an instructor and Chief of the Campus Police at SRJC. In June, 1972, he was hired as a Summer Deputy Sheriff for the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department. He was assigned as a Patrol Deputy in the Guerneville Substation, where he served for 20 years. For the last 10 years he has been assigned to Court Security. Mr. Fischer has been a full-time instructor in the Administration of Justice Department at SRJC for 32 years. Professor Fischer also serves as the Department's Academic Advisor.

    A.A. Degree in Law Enforcement, Santa Rosa Junior College.
    B.V.E. Degree in Vocational Education, San Francisco State University.
    M.P.A. (Justice Administration), Golden Gate University, San Francisco, 1973
    Additional graduate studies in counseling at Sonoma State University.
