Biography

    John Koetzner has been an instructor of English since 1989 at SRJC, and he has been teaching 32 years in Sonoma County. In addition to his work as an instructor of English, he also works as a freelance writer. His areas of interest within the field of English include literature as well as composition and rhetoric. You might find him out at concerts around the county, especially blues shows where he continues to study the blues discourse community. He joined the faculty at Mendocino College full-time in 2003 where continues to work as Head Librarian and teach English part-time.

Education

    B.A. in English from CSU, Dominguez Hills (1976).
    M.A. in English from Sonoma State University (1986).
    PhD program(ABD)in English at University of Nevada, Reno (1998).
    MLIS from San Jose State University (2002).

Academic Experience

    In addition to teaching developmental courses at SRJC, John Koetzner has taught freshman composition at University of Nevada, Reno, and he has taught upper division classes such as Creative Writing, Introduction to Shakespeare, and advanced composition at the college level. He entered the library/media field in 1997 and has continued to work in the library field since that time.

Professional Involvement and Community Service

    I volunteer for the Sonoma County Harvest Fair, helping judge the amateur winemaker division annually, and for three years I have coordinated Mendocino LitFest, a literary festival devoted to the literary arts.
