Biography

The west coast is an incredible place in which to study or teach geology. After taking my first geology course in Washington State, I was hooked! Imagine coming from the flatlands of the midwest and having your first field trip on the slopes of Mount Rainier!

I hope you find it as fun as I do. Geology is all around you!

Education

M.S. Geology (Sedimentology), San Jose State University
B.S. Natural Sciences, The Evergreen State College, Olympia, Washington

Work and Consulting Experience

As well as being a member of SRJC's adjunct faculty, I work for an environmental consulting firm in Sebastopol. Current projects include drilling and installing test water supply wells for the City of Santa Rosa, Brownfields site cleanups for redevelopment in downtown Petaluma, environmental site assessments, and underground storage tank cleanups.

Professional Areas of Interest

I have a particular interest these days in geothermal energy and in problems associated with Brownfields and mercury mine-scarred lands. My work involves some properties with these problems and I get to be a sleuth to figure out where the problems are.

I am also 40-Hour Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response Trained, U.S. DOT HazMat (49 CFR172.704) Trained, and Lead Awareness Trained.

Professional Involvement and Community Service

Member, SRJC Petaluma Campus Sustainable Practices Task Group
Member, Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists
Member, National Association of Geoscience Teachers
Member, Friends of the Petaluma River

Presentations and Publications

Masters Thesis, San Jose State University, "Analysis of Sediment and Sedimentary Processes in Perennially Ice-Covered Lake Hoare, Antarctica."
