DRD Spring 2013 Scholarship Deadlines

  • Completed applications must be submitted to the Disability Resources Department Front Desk by 3:00 p.m., Monday, February 25, 2013.

  • The amounts of these scholarships range approximately from $200-$1250 depending on the scholarship. Specific amounts will be posted on this website as they become available.

  • You may pick up an application in the Disability Resources Department or download the application packet.

DRD Spring 2013 Scholarship Descriptions

The following scholarships are offered through the Disability Resources Department (DRD) at Santa Rosa Junior College. Please note that the various scholarships have different academic and financial need qualifications and that some are limited to students with specific disabilities.

Aaron M. Alves Scholarships (2 @ $300)

Awarded to two SRJC students who receive services from the Disability Resources Department and are diagnosed with ADD/ADHD or a learning disability. Students must be in good academic standing and be enrolled in a minimum of nine (9) units at SRJC.

Arthur Jaseau Scholarship Award (1 @ $500)

Awarded to a student with an acquired brain injury who is finishing their program at SRJC and moving on to continue their education or training by December of 2013.

Colleen Handley Memorial Scholarship (1 @ $200)

Awarded to an SRJC student who has a physical disability, has financial need and intends to transfer to a four-year college after graduation. Involvement in campus and community service activities is important.

David L. Proctor Memorial Scholarships (1 @ $1250 and 1 @ $500)

Students with an Acquired Brain Injury or seizure diagnosis will be given preference, as well as those working towards a business and/or economics goal. The student must demonstrate personal motivation and determination towards furthering their education as well as initiative towards developing leadership skills and becoming a contributing member of their community. Additionally, students must be willing to have the scholarship description and their name publicized.

  • ($1,250) Awarded to a student who is transferring to a UC, CSU, or other California public school for higher education. The student must be in good academic standing and will be required to provide verification of transfer (i.e. signed transfer agreement or college acceptance letter).

  • ($500) Awarded to a student who is currently attending SRJC and is working towards completing their transfer requirements.

Dream Big Scholarship Awards (4 @ $500)

Awarded to four SRJC students with an acquired brain injury or psychological disability who are receiving services through the Disability Resources Department and who have financial need. These students must demonstrate personal motivation and determination toward becoming contributing members of their community through development of academic, vocational, and/or community service skills.

Edith M. Amateau Scholarship (1 @ $275)

Awarded to an SRJC student in the Disability Resources Department who is Deaf and has financial need. The student must be in good academic standing and be enrolled in at least six (6) units.

Elizabeth Carlson Memorial Scholarship (1 @ $425)

Awarded to an SRJC student receiving services from the Disability Resources Department. The student must be in good academic standing, have financial need and be facing significant life challenges. The student needs to demonstrate personal commitment and perseverance in overcoming obstacles towards furthering their education and skills.

Julie Stone Memorial Scholarship (1 @ $500)

Awarded to an SRJC student receiving services from the Disability Resources Department with any disability. The student must be in good academic standing, have financial need and have a strong interest in studying art.

Margaret Rainwater Memorial Scholarship (1 @ $300)

Awarded to an SRJC student with a psychological or visual disability, who is receiving services from the Disability Resources Department. The student must be in good academic standing, have financial need and demonstrate personal determination and commitment to developing academic, vocational, or community service skills.

Milden & Mortensen/Petaluma 7-11 Lions Club Scholarships

Awarded to three students with a visual impairment or a visual disability. The students must be in good academic standing, enrolled in six (6) units and have financial need.

Monson Family Scholarships (1 @ $1000 & 2 @ $625)

For all Monson Family Scholarships, the students must demonstrate personal motivation and determination towards furthering their education as well as initiative towards becoming contributing members of their community. Additionally, students must be receiving services from DRD and be willing to have the scholarship description and their name publicized.

  • ($1000) Awarded to a student who is transferring to an accredited four-year institution by Fall 2013 with a goal of attaining a Bachelor’s Degree or higher. Student must have verification of one or more of the following: learning disability, Asperger’s syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, non-verbal learning disability and/or attention deficit disorder. The student will be required to provide verification of transfer (i.e. signed transfer agreement or college acceptance letter), and must be enrolled in at least six (6) units at SRJC.

  • ($625) Awarded to a student who is in good academic standing, enrolled in at least six (6) units and is making progress towards a career/vocational certificate and/or Associate’s degree. Student must have verification of one or more of the following: learning disability, Asperger’s syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, non-verbal learning disability and/or attention deficit disorder.

  • ($625) Awarded to a student with a verified learning disability who is in good academic standing, enrolled in at least six (6) units and making progress towards a career/vocational certificate and/or Associate’s degree.

Sonoma County Mayors' Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities (SCMCEPD) Educational Scholarship (1 @ $500)

As a way to promote the gainful, independent employment of people with disabilities, this scholarship is awarded to a student with a disability who is preparing for employment. The student must be in good academic standing, taking a minimum of nine (9) units and be on track for graduation by Spring 2014. The student will be expected to attend the Sonoma County Employers Best Practices Awards Breakfast in October.

The Villa Family Scholarship honoring Laura Aspinall (1 @ $500)

Awarded to a continuing or transfer DRD student whose major is in the STEM cluster with a minimum GPA of 2.0.

United Cerebral Palsy of the North Bay Scholarships (2 @ $500)

Awarded to two students receiving services from the Disability Resources Department. One scholarship is for a student who has cerebral palsy and the second scholarship is for a student with a physical or developmental disability. Students must demonstrate personal motivation and determination towards becoming contributing members of their community through developing academic, vocational, and/or community service skills and be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) units.

Williams-King-Parsons Foundation Scholarships (4 @ $500)

Awarded to four SRJC students who receive services from the Disability Resources Department and are diagnosed with a psychological disability. Students will have a demonstrated commitment to their recovery and mental health and wellness. Students must be in good academic standing, have financial need, be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) units at SRJC, and be making progress towards a stated academic or vocational goal. The recipient will have their name publicized at the Disability Resources Scholarship Ceremony.
