Web-based class materials at SRJC are built, configured, and maintained by individual instructors.
That means not all instructors make the same decisions about setting up classes, and in some cases not all classes taught by a particular instructor will be configured in the same manner.
Therefore, you need to know how your instructor has configured your class materials, otherwise you might drive yourself crazy with frustration trying to access those materials in a manner that simply won't work.
There are two basic approaches, and different instructors make different choices.
CATE check-in, username, and password
If your class is configured for the CATE check-in process, then you must go through that check-in process, your instructor must accept you, and you MUST use your CATE username and password to access class materials, submit tests, etc. In this case, your SRJC student ID number and PIN code will NOT function.
SRJC student ID number and PIN code
If your class is configured in this manner, you can use your SRJC student ID number and PIN code to access class materials, submit tests, etc. In addition, if you prefer to do so, you can also choose to use your CATE username and password. Either way will work.
Which configuration is in use?
Depends on choices made by your instructor. Check your section homepage. Under the "Class Check-in" heading you'll find the answer. If the information there says "This class is configured so that the usual CATE check-in process is not required," then you're free to use your SRJC student ID number and PIN code (or, optionally, your CATE username and password). Otherwise, you MUST go through the CATE check-in process and you MUST use your CATE username and password.
Edit your CATE username and password
It's possible you might have different CATE usernames and passwords for different classes. If that's what you really want, then that's okay. However, we recommend that you use the CATE Student Configuration Manager to edit your CATE username and password. This allows you to have one simple, easy-to-remember, and easy-to-type username and password you can use for all your CATE-based classes, no matter how your instructor has configured them. Finally
In some cases, your instructor might have unintentionally locked you and your classmates out of your class website. If you're sure you've done everything right, but you still can't log in, you should contact your instructor as soon as possible and report the problem.
