World Music Ethnography Research Proposal |
|
| BE SURE TO READ the Overview, Step 1 and Step 2 of the online explanation of the World Music Ethnography. Submit your World Music Ethnography Proposal Form here or from the Step 2 - Writing a Draft Proposal for the World Music Ethnography Web page of the online explanation. Begin your research proposal "abstract" paragraph by completing this sentence with NOUNS (for example the name of a band and the musical genre they play): "The focus of this ethnography will be ..." Write a minimum of three (3) additional complete sentences for a minimum total of four (4) sentences ONLY about your chosen musical phenomenon. DO NOT use first person ("I" "me" "my" "mine") UNLESS you are a participant-observer or have a personal connection to the live musical phenomenon you choose such as a relative (e.g. "my aunt"). Use proper nouns (e.g. "Mariah Carey") whenever possible. Write a brief description of your chosen musical phenomenon and an overview of its historical development and cultural context. Mention specific resources pertaining to your musical phenomenon such as titles of videos and books, URLs of websites, and names of personal contacts. If you will be a participant-observer, explain exactly how you will participate. If you are related in some way to a personal contact, explain how you are related. The phenomenon you choose does not have to be the same as the one you posted on the Message Board, and you may choose a musical phenomenon that others have chosen and work collaboratively. However, you MUST write your own original world music ethnography, one that is different from those of other students. Since jazz and Western European Art Music (WEAM) are major areas of study within the SRJC Music Department, these are the only two musics from which you may not select.
