Wastewater Treatment Technology

The Water Utility Operations Certificate Program includes 11.5 units of core requirements, plus elective courses for a total of 16 units.

The Applied Technology Department currently offers three courses in Wastewater Technology under the Environmental Technology series of courses: ENVT 220 Wastewater Treatment plant Operator, ENVT 230 Industrial Pretreatment, ENVT 235 Wastewater Lab. Students will receive instructional training necessary for entry level positions in wastewater disposal and treatment, including municipal and industrial collection and treatment. The classes will assist in developing the knowledge to pass the required examinations administered by the California Department of Health Services.

The department is currently working on a grant to develop a Wastewater Technology certificate. The certificate is scheduled to be approved for the fall 2011 semester.

Topics of study include for the new certificate will be:

  • Introduction to WW treatment

  • WW treatment plant operator

  • WW chemistry

  • Math for WW treatment

  • Instrumentation and controls

  • Industrial Pre-Treatment

Classes are offered at the Petaluma Campus in the evenings. The program will be scheduled so that students may complete the entire program in one year.
